    Kiembe Samaki School

    Kiembe Samaki School provides primary education for local children while promoting academic achievement, creativity, and personal development. Volunteers work alongside local teachers to help create a positive and engaging learning environment for students of different ages.

    How You'll Contribute

    • Support classroom learning across a variety of subjects

    • Encourage students through reading, writing, creative activities, and educational games

    • Build confidence by providing additional encouragement and individual support

    Mombasa English Media School

    Established in 2000, Mombasa English Media School provides free nursery and primary education for children from disadvantaged backgrounds, including orphans and low-income families. The school is committed to ensuring every child has access to quality education in a supportive and inclusive learning environment.

    How You'll Contribute:

    • Support teachers with classroom learning, literacy, and numeracy activities

    • Encourage creativity through games, storytelling, and interactive learning

    • Help create an engaging learning environment where children can thrive

    Location: Mombasa, Zanzibar (Approximately 10 minutes from accommodation)

    Sapphire School

    Sapphire School provides a nurturing learning environment for children aged 2–9 years, including students with additional learning needs. The school combines quality education with a family-centred approach, creating an inclusive environment where every child is encouraged to reach their potential.

    Sure Steps Nursery School

    Founded in 2017, Sure Steps Nursery School provides early childhood education for young learners in Kiembe Samaki. The school creates a welcoming environment where children develop confidence, curiosity, and foundational learning skills through creative and interactive education.

    Sweet Baby Care Centre

    Founded in 2012, Sweet Baby Care Centre provides a safe and nurturing environment for around 40 children from infancy through to kindergarten age. The centre focuses on early childhood development through play, creativity, and foundational learning in a caring, family-like setting.

    • Support local educators through play-based learning and daily classroom activities

    • Encourage children's development through songs, storytelling, arts, and creative play

    • Help create a positive environment where young children feel supported, confident, and engaged

    Founded in 2022, Wiser Academy provides quality education for young children while supporting families within the Mbweni community. The school focuses on creating an engaging learning environment where every child is encouraged to grow academically, socially, and creatively.

Healthcare & Medical Internships

    Chumbani Hospital

    Located just outside Stone Town, Chumbuni District Hospital is a government healthcare facility providing essential medical services to the local community. Volunteers work alongside experienced healthcare professionals, gaining valuable insight into patient care while supporting the day-to-day operations of the hospital in a respectful and supervised environment.

    How You'll Contribute:

    • Support nurses and healthcare professionals with newborn care, including weighing, bathing, and changing babies under supervision.

    • Assist with preparing treatment areas, organising supplies, maintaining hygiene standards, and supporting the smooth running of the ward.

    • Observe clinical practice while learning from experienced medical staff and building an understanding of healthcare in Zanzibar.

    ⚲ Location: Chumbuni, Zanzibar (Approximately 20 minutes from accommodation)

    ◴ Typical Schedule: Monday – Friday | 7:30am – 1pm

    Jitimai Hospital

    Established in 2023, Jitimai Hospital is a modern government hospital in Stone Town providing high-quality healthcare across 12 specialised departments. With a capacity of 100 beds and more than 200 healthcare professionals, the hospital delivers comprehensive medical services while promoting community wellbeing across Zanzibar.

    How You'll Contribute:

    • Support healthcare professionals with patient care and daily hospital routines under supervision

    • Observe a range of clinical departments while gaining experience within a multidisciplinary medical team

    • Help create a positive patient experience through practical assistance, organisation, and compassionate care

    Location: Stone Town, Zanzibar (Approximately 15–20 minutes from accommodation)

    Typical Schedule: Monday – Friday | From 8am, approximately 8-hour shifts

    Healthcare Placement Disclaimer

    Healthcare placements are intended for students and qualified professionals with a relevant medical or allied health background. The level of participation will depend on your qualifications, previous experience, the policies of the host facility, and the direction of your supervising healthcare team.

    Participants are expected to:

    • Work under the supervision of qualified medical professionals at all times.

    • Follow the instructions and protocols of supervising doctors, nurses, and hospital staff.

    • Observe, assist, and learn within the scope of their experience and approved responsibilities.

    • Respect patient privacy, dignity, and confidentiality at all times. Photography or video of patients is strictly prohibited unless expressly authorised by the healthcare facility for an approved purpose.

    • Comply with all hospital policies, infection prevention procedures, and professional standards.

    Healthcare placements are designed to provide valuable cross-cultural learning and professional development opportunities. They are not intended to replace the role of qualified healthcare professionals or provide independent clinical practice.
