The volunteer experience
The most meaningful volunteer experiences aren't measured by the hours you give, but by the people you meet, the moments you share, and the way a place stays with you long after you've returned home.
At Volunteer in Tanzania, you'll be welcomed into everyday life. Share meals, learn new skills, discover remarkable places, and build genuine relationships with the people and communities who open their homes and hearts to you.
It's an opportunity to slow down, see the world through a different perspective, and leave with memories, friendships and experiences that will stay with you long after your journey ends.
What makes our experience different
Locally Managed
Our local team lives and works in Tanzania and Zanzibar, building genuine relationships with the communities we support. You'll be guided by people who know the culture, the places and the people best.
Community Driven
Every placement is with a trusted community partner already creating positive change. We don't create projects, we strengthen existing initiatives led by local organisations and the communities they serve.
Prepared, Not Just Placed
Great volunteer experiences begin with good preparation. Before you arrive, you'll receive practical resources covering your placement, local culture, travel information and everything you need to feel confident.
Support at Every Step
From airport transfers and accommodation to placement coordination and every day living support, our team is always close by. You'll have guidance, reassurance and practical help whenever you need it.
Tailored to Your Journey
Whether you're volunteering, completing an internship, joining through a university or travelling with a collaboration agency, we'll tailor your experience to suit your goals, interests and aspirations.
The volunteer journey
-
Your journey begins long before you step on the plane.
Whether you book directly with Volunteer in Tanzania or through one of our International Booking Partners, you'll be supported every step of the way before arriving in Tanzania.
If you book directly with us, our team will guide you through the entire planning process, helping you choose the right placement while providing everything you need to prepare for your experience.
If you book through one of our International Booking Partners, they'll support you through the booking and pre-departure process before introducing you to our local team, who will take over once you have arrived in Tanzania.
-
From the moment you step off the plane, you're welcomed by our local team.
We'll meet you at the airport, take you to your volunteer house, introduce you to fellow volunteers, and help you settle into your new surroundings.
During your first few days, you'll receive a local orientation covering your accommodation, transport, placement, cultural etiquette, and practical information to help you feel comfortable before your experience begins.
From this point on, our local team is there to support you throughout your time in Tanzania.
-
Our volunteer houses are more than somewhere to stay, they're where friendships are formed, experiences are shared, and community comes to life.

"I arrived thinking I would give. I left knowing I received far more than I could ever offer. Volunteering in Zanzibar didn't just change how I see the world, it changed how I see my place in it."

"From the very first day, I felt welcomed, and strangers quickly became supportive friends. Working with the sea turtles was incredible, but it was the passionate people and sense of community that made the experience truly unforgettable. I'm so grateful for everything I've experienced and can't wait for all the memories still to come."
